Again, my exact motherboard and hard drive specs:ĪMD Mobo: Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black (WD1002FAEX) 1 TB Sata 6gb/s 64mb cacheĬPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz 125w Video: XFX Radeon HD5870 xXx Edition RAM: 4G Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) PS: Antec 1200 Truepower Quattro Continuous Power Optical: Plextor 24x DVD/CD Writer PX-880SA Case: AZZA Solano Full Tower I have a 1600$ blue LED studded paper weight and contrary to popular belief, paper weights do NOT play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. So I'm left with these conclusions, none of which make very much sense:ġ) I have a bad copy (for lack of a better term) of w7ulti64oemĢ) my motherboard simply ISN'T compatible with this hard driveĪny help or suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'm INCLINED to think the burn was not a hack job though anything's possible. I've read that a common root of this problem is a "bad cd burn." I bought this copy of "Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OEM" straight from at $179.99. The initial setup files (Program Files, sources, Users, and Windows) have even made it onto the HD The motherboard recognizes it in the BIOS. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive.

I then, fingers crossed, have my computer scan the external hard drive for the magical "device driver needed to access my hard drive" and. Obviously I don't want to put Windows 7 on my external HD, nor would it let me if I did. I plug this external hard drive into my new computer and hey, it makes it onto the previously blank list of storage locations! At least the USB drivers came stock. I then download and unzip all three SATA RAID drivers (including the Marvell Console Driver ) and the Chipset / SATA RAID driver to my WD USB external hard drive. I then borrow a friend's laptop and visit my motherboard's Windows 7 64 bit driver page: Well maybe I'll have better luck at Gigabyte's website. Not to mention the front of the CD cites "Windows 7 support" and "SATA drivers." Hm. Even though it advertises right on the box that it has the new Marvell 6gb/s SATA III controller. So apparently, the driver's needed for Gigabyte's top of the line AMD motherboard to "access my hard drive" are neither on the motherboard itself, nor on the drivers CD included in the box. Red Flag #3: The relentless NOPE response.įirst, I tried the obvious solution, inserting the CD that came with my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5) and having my computer scan for these pesky drivers NOPE response. Thus began my search to find these "signed device drivers." " I bolded this text because I will be referring back to it often as the NOPE response. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK. After failing to find "drivers needed to access my hard drive" on my new machine it prompts me with: " No signed device drivers were found. Options are "Browse," "OK," and "Cancel." Expecting to fail (since my hard drive wasn't on the initial list) I simply click "OK" which causes a full scan of the computer.

Red Flag #2: "To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files, then click OK." Click 'Load Driver' to provide a mass storage driver for installation." Only other clickable options are "Refresh" (to refresh the list) and "Drive options" which expands into "Delete," "Format," and "Extend." Wondering why my new Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB Sata 6gb/s isn't on the list even though my mobo recognizes it, I go to WD's website and find this in the FAQ's:Īpparently my mobo doesn't have it's SATA control drivers installed already. Message at the bottom says "No drives were found. Red Flag #1: Where do you want to install Windows? Smooth sailing all the way until I tried to install my OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I've just put together my new system two nights ago.
